The Highlands County Parks & Recreation team proudly maintains 45 locations and is responsible for the maintenance, management, improvement and development of the County's park system. They are also responsible for maintaining the grounds of 25 public buildings throughout the county.

The primary goal of Parks & Recreation is to provide safe, clean and functional parks and recreation facilities. Our parks offer active and passive recreational opportunities for everyone.  All county parks are open all year long from sunrise until sunset, unless a registered vessel for fishing. Facilities include nine parks, five softball parks, six playgrounds, four nature/boardwalks and 36 boat ramps.

Highlands County parks are open from dawn until dusk.

Things to remember when visiting one of our parks:

  1. No reservations for picnic tables or pavilions.
  2. Pick up your trash
  3. Playground equipment is not regularly sanitized
  4. It is illegal to burn/have a firepit in County parks
  5. It is illegal to set off fireworks in County parks
