Kevin Roberts has lived in Highlands County since 1975. He and his wife, Debbie Allison Roberts, live in Avon Park and have been happily married for over 50 years. They have three daughters and son-in-law: Hollie Roberts, Kati Pippin, Amy and Eric Zwayer, and seven grandchildren living in Sebring.
Kevin is an active member of Bible Fellowship Church in Sebring and has been for more than 20 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Leo University in 1972, and a master’s degree from Rollins College in 1981.
Kevin is the founder of the Champion for Children Foundation, a local non-profit that helps children and families in the Highlands County community. He served as its CEO from 1991-2017 and is now its chairman of the board, serving in that role since 2017. The foundation honored him in 2019 with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
Kevin previously worked for Highlands County government as director of Human Services for 16 years from 1991-2007, where he gained tremendous insight into the inner workings of county government. He has earned numerous awards and honors for his service to the community. As a hobby, Kevin teaches American history to his grandchildren.
Kevin won the Bud Cramer Advocacy Award from the National Children's Alliance in June 2021. The Bud Cramer Advocacy Award recognizes an elected official who has demonstrated a sincere commitment to children through their extraordinary promotion of the Children’s Advocacy Center model and demonstrating a spirit of collaboration working toward the safety of every child.
Kevin received his Advanced County Commissioner I & II certifications at the Florida Association of Counties annual conference in June 2023. He received his Certified County Commissioner designation in June 2021. The designations are awarded after completing a program on best county government practices in the state of Florida. The certification programs are offered at the University of Florida, Institute for County Government.
