Highlands County is home to some of the last remaining scrub habitat on the Lake Wales Ridge, that collectively are home to 36 species of the nation’s rarest plants and animals and four (4) globally rare plant communities. The Highlands County Natural Resources Division supports in protecting, managing and restoring environmental lands and wildlife habitats throughout the County.
The Natural Resources’ staff in coordination and cooperation with State and Federal environmental agencies also supports in protecting, managing and educating the public regarding Highlands County natural lakes and water bodies. Additional collaboration involves local volunteer citizens in collecting water quality samples and data to support and monitor Highlands County aquatic ecosystems.
The Division is dedicated to assist citizens in improving and sustaining the natural resources and environment of Highlands County.
